THE HOLIDAYS ARE FOR KIDS
Make Theirs the Best Ever!
An annual tradition at Loaves & Fishes, “Shop for Your Kids Day” will be held on Monday, December 14. To give us more room, the Devens Recreation Department has invited us to hold this holiday event at their facility on Rogers Field, just a short drive from the pantry (and with three times the space!).
As in the past, existing clients can select new toys and books for each of their children. Last year, more than 500 children–newborns to teenagers–received gifts, books and stocking stuffers for the holidays! Gift wrap, bows, ribbon, and holiday decorations added to the fun. We are thankful to all of our neighbors, churches, businesses and other local organizations for their very generous contributions last season.
WHAT DO WE NEED? Cash donations, gift cards ($20) and new, unwrapped toys are what we are looking for to make this day a success. Please go to our web site, www.loavesfishespantry.org, to review our “Most Wanted List” of gifts and books. A general list would include early year/infant toys, dolls, action figures, games (NOT “Candyland” or “Chutes and Ladders”–we have plenty of these left over from last year!), construction toys, arts and crafts, pre-teen and teen items and store gift cards. CAN YOU VOLUNTEER DURING THE EVENT? Again this year we will hold both morning and evening sessions, so that clients who work during the day can shop for their kids, too, without having to take a day off. Because we have two sessions, we need twice as many volunteers, so let us know if you can help, particularly in the evening (5:30-7:00 p.m) on December 14th . We can also use volunteers to inventory the toys as they are delivered to the pantry (see the donation drop off times in the newsletter insert), sort, pack and deliver them to Devens Recreation for storage before the event.
